Art From The Car

In the last few days I got to spend about 10 hours or so in a car or van.  Since I was not driving for any of that I took advantage of it and did some drawing while in the back seat.  It really does help pass the time!

The pictures are a bit blurry but that sort of the side effect of taking them while still in the car.

The first two pictures I grew on the way home from London.  This Batman one and the next one I drew the night before while on the way to dinner.

IMG_20131228_112200

I drew the superman one first actually, then part way through my last lead in my pencil broke and was too short to keep going so I switched to a pen that Amber had in her pocket.  I did the sharpie on Batman later when we got back to Amber’s mom’s house.

Inking

I find inking to actually be quite hard to do well and sometimes I do find as well that it actually makes my drawings worse.  But when doing comic book pages you have to ink.  This is one page I actually like in both pencil and ink!

Drawings On The Train

A few weeks ago Amber and I went to Toronto and on the way back she fell asleep on the Go Train.  Which left me with an hour to fill with just one sheet of paper and a pen.  These are the results.

20131208_191015

Here is the whole one side, I drew superman first.

20131208_191027

I drew myself by looking at my reflection in the window.

Noses, I find them tricky to draw so I was practicing.

20131208_191113

A not bad Batman and an awful Catwoman fighting on top of the go train.  A weird face in the sky there too, but that`s because I drew the nose first and made the face without any guide for proportion.

A Shark And Mike

One of the children at daycare asked if i could draw a shark.  Then asked me to draw him in his superfast new shoes!

Day 19–Favourite Magical Character

20131106_211616

I drew this on Art Academy for Wii U and then snapped a picture of it.  I wouldn’t really say Wonder Woman is my favourite magical character, but I am reading Volume 3 of the series right now so she’s what came to mind.

Day 18–Pixel Art You

Day 18 8bit you

Here I am as an 8-bit sprite.  I cheated a bit on the colours though and used more than four.  Maybe I’m 9-bit?

Mara Jade

100_5469

This is a drawing I did back in like 2001 or something.  Mara Jade was from a Star Wars game and this picture was I think taken off the cover art from the CD.  Maybe.  I’m pretty sure I had a reference for it anyways.

Day 17–Favourite Scene From A Video Game

20131022_212631

This is actually the final scene in an epic match in Super Smash Bros Melee between Ian and Myself.  One of the few times I was able to beat him.

Batman Black And White

A few pictures from out of my sketchbook.

20131022_212536

20131022_212545

I like the second one a bit better, not sure if it’s because of the inks or not though.  i tend to like my work more in the pencil stage than in inks overall, but I think they look more finished with the inks.  I need to be able to do that part better!

A Quick Batman

Batman 002

Just a quick Batman I drew late last night.  Looking at it now it’s clear I needed to do some detail work on the chest/arm area.

A Brave Warrior

Ok, I’m back.  Turns out that being really, REALLY tired kinda hurts the whole blogging thing.  But here we are, with a Brave Warrior.  I actually toyed around with this one a few times before I struck this idea.  Most of the original thoughts were very typical, burley hairy axe wielding Norse types.  This idea I thought turned out well.  So well that I went a drew a whole non-terrible background for it.

Stages of Drawing The Flash

Fighting The Villain

Today’s Art Challenge was to draw the hero from Day 1 (Mighty Chrispy) fighting the villain from Day 7 (I think it was).  I decided days ago that the only way to do this was with a comic style page and so here is what I came up with!

Day 15 Fighting the Villian

Not exactly great dialogue, but I’ve seen worse as well.

Anime

Day 14, almost half way there and I have to draw an Anime character.  I Have to admit that I used to try that style a lot, but it was always from a reference.

So this drawing is probably about 15 or 16 years old at this point!  Sailor Venus.

In A Red Suit

Day 13 of the challenge is to draw An Existing Character That Uses A Red Suit.  So here is the Flash!

Pretty nifty this one I think.

Here it is in evidence that I suck at backgrounds!

Win Some Art

I was reading Marion’s Blog over at Affection for Fitness, a connection through my other blog, where she had some great idea’s to grow the membership of your blog.

I seem to get quite a few hits here, but not much action over here and so I’ve decided to give something away and all you have to do is follow the blog and comment on this post.  Pretty simple stuff right.

But now you are wondering what you win, right?  Well I flipped through my sketchbook just a few moments ago and found a sketch that I liked and put it on the light table and did some inking.

Joker

I nice little Joker piece.  The original of course does not have ‘The Mighty Chrispy’ across the front of it. Win it and I will pack it up and mail it to you!  Might not be from Jim Lee, but it’s art, its original, and it’s free besides a few mouse clicks, and a clickity-clack on the keyboard.

I’ll leave it open for a week and a bit, Sept 28th will be the deadline.

Remember the steps?

1. Follow the blog

2. Comment on this post

That’s it.  Have Fun, Fingers crossed that *you* win!

Fire Cat

Day 10 of the 30 Day Art Challenge is to draw your favourite animal with the element of fire.  Well I’m just plain awful at drawing animals so this is what you get.

Day 10 fav animal with fire

How To Draw Hands, With Jim Lee

I watched this video a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed, as usual with how nice and amazing Jim was in the whole thing.  Check it out!

Day 9

Day 9 of the 30 Day Art Challenge was to draw a Mexican Superhero.  I just sat down and sketched and this is what came up.

Day 9 A Mexican Superhero

Pretty much Zorro came out, fitting I guess.

Do Or Do Not, There Is No Try

Day eight of the 30 Day Art Challenge is a popular movie phrase.  This is what sprung to my mind and then I tried to draw out the scene.  Due to our trip out of town yesterday and then arriving home late tonight I didn’t get a chance to finish it up.  So, here’s what I’ve got.

20130916_224900

Not exactly the fashion in which I’d like to meet a deadline, but it’s done(ish).

Friend Making Monday

On my other blog (linked on the left) I have participated in this Friend Making Monday for quite a while, and I thought it might be interesting to do on here, but I would draw all the answers.  Turns out this week was pretty hard for that, but I gave it a try anyways.

You can link up to your friend making Monday here, or over at All The Weigh.

On to the questions.

Villains

Day 7 of the 30 Day Art Challenge was to make one of my friends into a villain.

Day 7 A villain

So here’s Matt as a villain, note the ‘Keyboard of Doom’ and the ‘Destructor’, that’s what makes him a villain.  I’m looking forward to Day 15 where I have to show us fighting.

A Work In Progress

I mentioned on Twitter last night that I had completed the pencilling of 11 pages of a comic that I am working on.  These are not the best pages you have ever seen for sure but when I was at Fan Expo a few weeks ago so many of the writers and artists there said they just used to make these little photocopy-able books and give them away or sell them for a buck or whatever.  Hearing that I thought hey, why not me?

So I fleshed out a bit of a story and began to draw.  I can really appreciate the true effort and talent that goes into a real comic now and when I hear that it take Greg Capullo (the artist on Batman) a day to draw a page I really get a grasp on just how much time and effort he puts into the staging, layout and detail of each panel.

I have about 1/10th that skill, but I am doing it anyways because the only way to get better is to do it!

So yeah, I mentioned it on Twitter and one of my newest followers asked if I had an work in progress to share.  So here it is.

Mythbusters

Favourite TV Series is the subject for day 6 of the 30 Day Art Challenge.

Day 6 Mythbusters

Mythbusters has been one of my favourite shows for over 10 years now.  It’s always educational, usually hilarious and frequently very smart!  Adam, Jamie, Kari, Tory and Grant have shown me so many amazing things!

Samus Aran

Today’s topic for the 30 Day Art Challenge is a video game character.  I had a quick sketch of Mario done, but decided to change it at the last minute and then drew this:

Here is some proof!

See I’m not just wasting my time in all those meetings and PD events

Current Comics

Day 4 of the 30 day art challenge is The Current or Last Comic you read.  I have a few coloured drawings here and a few that are just pencils.

Day 04 BatmanDay 04 Green LanternDay 04 Nightwing

I get Batman and Nightwing delivered monthly and both are really amazing.  I greatly appreciate the art of Greg Capullo on Batman and of all the comics I have picked up in the last two years I think the Batman book satisfies me the most both from a story perspective and an art point of view!

And I am re-reading my volume 2 of Green Lantern, which is also pretty good.
