Fighting The Villain
Today’s Art Challenge was to draw the hero from Day 1 (Mighty Chrispy) fighting the villain from Day 7 (I think it was). I decided days ago that the only way to do this was with a comic style page and so here is what I came up with!
Not exactly great dialogue, but I’ve seen worse as well.

Anime
Day 14, almost half way there and I have to draw an Anime character. I Have to admit that I used to try that style a lot, but it was always from a reference.
So this drawing is probably about 15 or 16 years old at this point! Sailor Venus.

Win Some Art
I was reading Marion’s Blog over at Affection for Fitness, a connection through my other blog, where she had some great idea’s to grow the membership of your blog.
I seem to get quite a few hits here, but not much action over here and so I’ve decided to give something away and all you have to do is follow the blog and comment on this post. Pretty simple stuff right.
But now you are wondering what you win, right? Well I flipped through my sketchbook just a few moments ago and found a sketch that I liked and put it on the light table and did some inking.
I nice little Joker piece. The original of course does not have ‘The Mighty Chrispy’ across the front of it. Win it and I will pack it up and mail it to you! Might not be from Jim Lee, but it’s art, its original, and it’s free besides a few mouse clicks, and a clickity-clack on the keyboard.
I’ll leave it open for a week and a bit, Sept 28th will be the deadline.
Remember the steps?
1. Follow the blog
2. Comment on this post
That’s it. Have Fun, Fingers crossed that *you* win!
Fire Cat
Day 10 of the 30 Day Art Challenge is to draw your favourite animal with the element of fire. Well I’m just plain awful at drawing animals so this is what you get.
How To Draw Hands, With Jim Lee
I watched this video a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed, as usual with how nice and amazing Jim was in the whole thing. Check it out!

Day 9
Day 9 of the 30 Day Art Challenge was to draw a Mexican Superhero. I just sat down and sketched and this is what came up.
Pretty much Zorro came out, fitting I guess.

Do Or Do Not, There Is No Try
Day eight of the 30 Day Art Challenge is a popular movie phrase. This is what sprung to my mind and then I tried to draw out the scene. Due to our trip out of town yesterday and then arriving home late tonight I didn’t get a chance to finish it up. So, here’s what I’ve got.
Not exactly the fashion in which I’d like to meet a deadline, but it’s done(ish).
Friend Making Monday
On my other blog (linked on the left) I have participated in this Friend Making Monday for quite a while, and I thought it might be interesting to do on here, but I would draw all the answers. Turns out this week was pretty hard for that, but I gave it a try anyways.
You can link up to your friend making Monday here, or over at All The Weigh.
On to the questions.

Villains
Day 7 of the 30 Day Art Challenge was to make one of my friends into a villain.
So here’s Matt as a villain, note the ‘Keyboard of Doom’ and the ‘Destructor’, that’s what makes him a villain. I’m looking forward to Day 15 where I have to show us fighting.
A Work In Progress
I mentioned on Twitter last night that I had completed the pencilling of 11 pages of a comic that I am working on. These are not the best pages you have ever seen for sure but when I was at Fan Expo a few weeks ago so many of the writers and artists there said they just used to make these little photocopy-able books and give them away or sell them for a buck or whatever. Hearing that I thought hey, why not me?
So I fleshed out a bit of a story and began to draw. I can really appreciate the true effort and talent that goes into a real comic now and when I hear that it take Greg Capullo (the artist on Batman) a day to draw a page I really get a grasp on just how much time and effort he puts into the staging, layout and detail of each panel.
I have about 1/10th that skill, but I am doing it anyways because the only way to get better is to do it!
So yeah, I mentioned it on Twitter and one of my newest followers asked if I had an work in progress to share. So here it is.

Mythbusters
Favourite TV Series is the subject for day 6 of the 30 Day Art Challenge.
Mythbusters has been one of my favourite shows for over 10 years now. It’s always educational, usually hilarious and frequently very smart! Adam, Jamie, Kari, Tory and Grant have shown me so many amazing things!

Samus Aran
Today’s topic for the 30 Day Art Challenge is a video game character. I had a quick sketch of Mario done, but decided to change it at the last minute and then drew this:
Samus Aran the heroine of the Metroid series by Nintendo.
Doodling Is Awesome
Here is some proof!
See I’m not just wasting my time in all those meetings and PD events

Current Comics
Day 4 of the 30 day art challenge is The Current or Last Comic you read. I have a few coloured drawings here and a few that are just pencils.
I get Batman and Nightwing delivered monthly and both are really amazing. I greatly appreciate the art of Greg Capullo on Batman and of all the comics I have picked up in the last two years I think the Batman book satisfies me the most both from a story perspective and an art point of view!
And I am re-reading my volume 2 of Green Lantern, which is also pretty good.

B.E.N.D.E.R. BeEender!
30 Day art challenge day 3 – A Famous Robot.
Really is there any robot more famous than this guy?
Probably, and I bet you’ve seen him drawn better too! But there he is, Bender. And if you ask him, he’s great!

He-Man and The Masters of The Universe
Day 2 of the 30 day art challenge is this – A favourite character from childhood. If I go back to my earliest days and something that I was so passionate about it has to be He-Man. Those toys were the first thing I collected, it was the first show I HAD to watch after school and it was the first lunch pail I had banned from the Christian school I went to for Kindergarten and grade 1.
30 Day Art Challenge
As I mentioned in my first post I began a 30 day art challenge yesterday here on the blog, but I neglected to provide that challenge to you viewers out there.
So here it is.
I chose this as my first challenge because of the first drawing. It seemed like a great jumping off point for the blog and it ended up providing me with the name as well.
So if you are reading this, join me! Either get involved on your blog and post links in the comments so that my day 2 links up with your day 2, or send me the pictures in email and I will post them up! Find me at themightychrispy@gmail.com or @Chrispy47 on Twitter

The Mighty Chrispy
Welcome to the first post of The Mighty Chrispy.
The Mighty Chrispy is a blog born of the desire to share some art I create and the title comes from the the first drawing that I am going to share with you.
A while ago I looked up a few art challenges and I have come across four separate 30 Day Art Challenges that will provide the blog with the kind of content I’d like early on to drive it forward Daily.
I will however be featuring art and artists that I find appealing, links to lessons and videos, and any sort of dialogue that I can provide on my own process and how that goes, or is going or is changing throughout my desire to become a better artist.
A friend of mine, who I would definitely refer to as an artist, said to me once that “Art without an audience is simply masturbation”. So, I’m hoping that you folks our there will be my audience, and that way I’m not doing all this just for myself.
30 Day Challenge – Day 1
Draw yourself as a superhero
The Mighty Chrispy
The name comes from two places, one is that in grade five there were two Chris’ in my class, Chris A. and Chris B. Chris B. was me. If you say Chris B. out loud quickly it sounds like ChrisBee, and one of the girls at school called me ChrisB Crunch. It wasn’t long before I made the leap to Chrispy (as in Crispy Crunch – the candy bar). The Might part comes from Damion who I worked with for a few years. I’m not sure where it came from, I know there was some discussion about nicknames and Damion gave me The Mighty Chris.
And so, here we are. I hope you’ll enjoy what you see here, I hope you’ll comment and contribute as well!
Thanks!
